OK, so you have an assignment due tomorrow and you haven't started it yet! The teachers are always nagging that "you can do better than this, what is happening to you?" Exams freak you out. Everyone is on your back to do this and do that NOW, saying to get a good job or go to university, you must study hard. Why can't they LEAVE YOU ALONE! You know that your school grades are important, but there is too much work to do. You constantly ask yourself "What if I fail?"

If you are feeling like this, there is a good chance you are suffering from that 90s phenomenon called STRESS. Check yourself against the list below to see if you are experiencing these symptoms of stress:

Irritability
Tiredness
Poor concentration
Poor short term memory
Constant mind thoughts
Lack of tolerance for others (you may not detect that in yourself)
Anxious about little things
Listlessness
Prone to bursts of anger and tears
Depressed, feeling alone, misunderstood
Disturbed sleep
Indigestion, poor appetite

Even though you are unaware, during times of stress your body suffers a great deal of physical 'abuse'. For instance, the brain triggers hormones which are released through the nervous system to change various parts of your body. Your mouth may become dry, breathing rate increases, blood pressure rises, heart beat speeds up, sweating occurs, blood diverts to muscles which have become tense, the bowel and bladder suffer irregularities, the immune system weakens making you susceptible to viruses.

I've also searched "how to study for exams efficiently". haha. If you guys have the time also, try looking it up...but I guess, no time left. lol.

Pls switch to unicode to view the chinese words. =))

SYF 2007 - Central Judging for concert bands

Once in every 2 years, we participate in the central judging & this year, zsb have gotten themselves a silver award! I felt relieved and happy & I'm indeed really was. Although we didn't get GOLD as we aimed, it's still good to so-called maintained the silver (in actual fact, we improved damn lot). Some might feel disappointing, yes. bronze, silver, silver again. Why not bronze, silver, gold? Looks so much nicer and satisfying. & yes, this year was the last time the sec 4s are taking part in the SYF. If we get gold, we can feel proud and happily leave the school. Who don't want GOLD frankly speaking? I also want the GOLD. It's so prestige. It can makes us feel that we are very good.

However, this year's standard has gone up, & although some said we were in the high silver range, in actual fact we do not know our marks and all if we really just missed the few points to touch the tail of the GOLD. And we knew ourselves we made some mistakes which GOLD bands don't or 1000000000x much lesser. Okay, I'm not trying to depress anyone that we can't get gold. But it's the fact. Maybe we really were in the high silver range.

For others who most probably would not know all this, they might think we didn't improve, but we knew it within ourselves. Most importantly, our instructor was very happy with our playing saying us musical & even closed his eyes at one part. This showed he was really in the music with us and he enjoyed. I'm happy with that also. (zx, very unexpected meh? u think i so lengxue ar...lol)

Anyways, for sure our instructor will have to rebuild the whole band again, like us the last time. We don't know what the future holds. But next time, haha, we gotta go & see the SYF orh bandmates?

After the SYF, we are preparing for our mid-yr exams. As we've promised or said, we will study hard after SYF, I hope we can do that. lol. Studies, is another our top priority. WE MUST GET GOOD RESULTS TOGETHER OKAY? We are also performing for the awards' day in july, wearing the band uniform & we gotta take band photos on that day too!

Our band life in sec sch is ending. =X From counting the no. of months to stepping down, we are already consider free now. & I can say, there's more to talk about band than class. Band is a tough cca, teaching u to be disciplined, determined...& I think it's the best CCA in the school...(are these from my mouth?) Oh yes. we are musicians..........the best in the school...yeah! We have a very strict, funny, u may hate & like de instructor!!! So serious in music. Very scary at times. I used to be damn scared of him and when do tuning, I would shiver alot & have wet hands when it's coming my turn.......=(

tt's all about band. so much unforgettable memories.

After that, thinking we have come so far, shld have a look inside cos initially i was quite scared by the ambience. HOWEVER, the other guy asked if we were 18, we said nope, 16? yes. SO HAPPPY. Mountain's Majesty
Larry O'Hanlon
One-fifth of the Earth's land surface is mountains. But only one in 10 people live in these rugged and beautiful places.

Until just a few decades ago, the secrets of making mountains were largely a mystery. Geologists could make sense of how volcanoes build themselves higher with their own lava, but how do ocean sediments end up on top of the Andes of South America?

It was the theory of plate tectonics — accepted by geologists in the 1960s — that finally provided some sensible answers. Simply put, where the rafts, or plates, of Earth's brittle crust collide, that's where most mountains tend to be. It's also where most of the earthquakes, volcanoes and other geological violence tend to gang up and make a ruckus.

The Himalayan Range, for instance, is growing every day as the Indian Plate continues to smash north into the much larger Asian Plate. The rumpled, contorted rocks of the collision form the highest mountain range on the planet. Among those rocks are old ocean sediments — right up at the very summit of Mount Everest. Just like in the Andes.

What Goes Up ...But as sure as they rise, rain, ice and snow are tearing mountains down. That's the irony of being a mountain on planet Earth: the higher a mountain reaches, the more clouds gather round its heights, dumping rain and snow on it to erode it away. The Appalachians were once a towering mountain range. But because the tectonic collision that pushed them up ended long ago, the old range is slowly melting away.

The Himalayas are putting up a better fight. The Indian monsoons wear them down, but the ongoing collision of plates keeps pushing the mountains up as well — and so a balance has been struck.

The flip side to all this mountain weather is that it feeds glaciers and fills rivers with just about all the freshwater on the planet. By forcing air to rise into chillier altitudes, mountains force water vapor to condense and deposit rain or snow on the land. All that water eventually feeds the rivers, lakes and streams that sustain our crops and provide water to cities and industries.

Mountains also come down more violently. Avalanches are an extreme danger in some mountainous regions. The worst are in places where old layers of rock are tilted downslope and then lubricated with water.

Volcanoes can also blow themselves apart in an instant — as was seen when Mount St. Helens literally lost its top in 1980.

Islands in the SkyMountains also have a gentler side. Because they are so rugged and hard to traverse, they are home to some of the rarest and least seen species of animals and plants, such as giant pandas, snow leopards and big horn sheep, just to name a few high-profile mountain creatures.

What makes mountains prone to rare species is elevation and isolation. Where mountains soar alone above lowlands, the highland species are literally trapped. A panda, for instance, that lives off only one kind of bamboo, which grows only at one elevation, can't spread to a faraway mountain of the same height because it would starve in the intervening lowlands. These pandas and many other mountain species are hemmed in. They might as well be surrounded by water.

In Nevada, range after range of mountains rise out of the desert — each with small, rare verdant zones up high. Most host species that live only on one or a few ranges and nowhere else on the planet. The oldest living things on the planet are among these isolated species — the 5,000-year-old Bristlecone pine trees, for example. These mountains are true islands in the sky.
Riches & War ZonesHumans can bring new sorts of violence to mountains. Because we tend to prefer lowlands for agriculture and building cities and towns, mountain ranges have often served as borderlands between nations. As a result, many wars tend to take place in mountainous regions. It's been true from Kashmir to Cambodia. Struggles between governments and ethnic minorities often play out in rugged places, which give smaller forces better odds.

Mountains are also a major part of the world's illegal drug market. Almost all of the world's heroin and cocaine comes from mountainous regions of the Myanmar-Thailand-Laos border trisection, the border of Pakistan and Afghanistan, and the Bolivia-Columbia border.

There's also the mineral wealth of the Earth that's far more accessible in mountainous regions. Whole mountaintops are being torn down to extract coal in Appalachia. Copper and gold mines in Nevada and Utah remove nearly entire mountains. It's a new mountain-destroying force never before seen on Earth.

Good News: Because soils are meager in mountains and the land is rugged, humans still prefer lowlands. This is the mountains' greatest protection. People like to visit mountains to hike, ski or just escape the heat of lowlands in summertime. Tourism has spurred more protection efforts of these places. After all, no one wants to visit the mountains just to sit in traffic and peer through smoggy air.

7 Magical Ways To Stop Procrastination

What can you do to stop procrastination when it won't let you finish a job?

There are a number of techniques to help you stop procrastination once and for all. If you can stopprocrastination in your life just think about what youcould accomplish and how much better you would feel.

People who procrastinate in excess are prone to feelings ofguilt, anxiety and powerlessness. Why does procrastinationoccur?

It could be as a result of not wanting to do things or ofnot being able to do things. It could also be a result offear. Many of us fear failure as well as success. Still others procrastinate simply because it works for them.

Procrastination is not something we should live with. When procrastination occurs, nothing gets done. And when nothinggets done due to procrastination, that's when we feel downand worthless.
Feeling this way may be avoided with a number of techniques designed to stop procrastination:

1. You can stop procrastination by getting organized. Beingunorganized leads to chaos and feelings of beingoverwhelmed. Stop procrastination by organizing your life.

2. Breakdown tasks into manageable units to stopprocrastination. Smaller tasks are less overwhelming thatlarge jobs.

3. Have discipline. Allow your desire for success toovercome your desire to put things off.

4. Positive motivation. Talk yourself up with encouragingquotes. Even very successful people feed their minds withpositive input each day.

5. Get someone else´s help to stop procrastination. Asksomeone to hold you accountable for completion of a taskyou have been procrastinating about. For example, if you are putting off cleaning the garage askyou wife to question you about when it will be completedseveral days before the due date.

6. Do the easiest or most enjoyable task first so that youget off to a good start. This works for some people whilethe opposite works for others. Some people like to get theunpleasant work out of the way so they can enjoy the rest.

7. Giving yourself a deadline can stop procrastination.Procrastination should not be something you should livewith. Successful people do not tend to procrastinate, instead, they stop procrastination because they know whatneeds to get done must get done.

It is not because they necessarily enjoy the unpleasanttasks which others procrastinate about but rather thestrength of their desire for success is greater than theirdesire to procrastinate.

Procrastination should not be a hindrance to achieving your goal. Take a moment to recognize the signs and do something to overcome it and stop procrastination. If you begin by rewarding yourself for small successes andstop punishing yourself when you do procrastinate you willbe able to develop new habits that, in time, will help stop procrastination.
