Band

Part 1

When I was in sec 1, I wanted to join a Uniform group, so I decided on Girl Guides. I went to check out the school website & found out that we actually needed to pay for the uniform which cost $40++, so I changed my mind. Haha.

I actually also wanted calligraphy club but knowing that mostly are guys so...I changed from pacer to entrepreneur club. But then I think because my friends wanted to join band so I changed again, much also because I wanted to try out the instruments, that was why.

The first time we went to the music room for band, Mr Er was already teaching some basic theory and the pupils also have had gotten some candies from him which we missed cos we were late! Lol. Not fair...haha. But never mind that. And when I heard his voice for the very first time, I found him like some 'sissy' (no offence)...cos his voice a bit like...lol.

Okay, so I think my first instrument was clarinet? Ya...then I went outside and started learning. At that time there were Wilson tan, sweefong and one sec 2 boy but he quitted after that. So I learned...then cos Wilson was speaking to sf in Chinese but he spoke to me in English so I knew he must have thought I was malay then I said, "You can speak to me in Chinese." Then he said, "You mixed ar?" Then I replied, "no la...I'm pure Chinese.." haha.

Then I think I told him my hands were wet cos when I press the high notes key my hands very slippery then like cannot mah...then he said you got sweaty palms ar....then he said like that cannot play...dunno la, blabla.

After that I went saxophone where yaotong taught me. He was speaking a lot of hokkien to me...haha, then he asked me to play the notes he was going to say and I did so. Then I realized that the song is the old macdonald had a farm...that song...we both laughed. Played a fool on me? Lol. He was quite good...and he often wore hat and was 18 yrs old that time...same as Wilson.

Then I also remembered I got tried euphonium before but cannot blow leh. Xinyi also trying that time...then got 1 time we went compassvale sec then also brought along the instruments...so heavy then xinyi also got helped me carry...
Back to the saxophone part, zhixian also in la...but I forgot that part already. But I know when we were in the music room, Mr Neo asked us to play our scales...then he asked me to go clarinet again...

Part 2

Then Kerrin and I was playing 1st that time (I also don't why I..), we got practice the blue ridge saga together and at that time we weren't that close cos just knew each other mah. Then after that our band played the little mermaid and my high notes were 'bek bek' then Mr Er said you 'bek bek' then I prefer you not to play. I also remembered I couldn't play the notes above the high G. I was very scared every time he tests the sec 1s. I was even trembling. No joke. And I had this problem; like I felt that my playing (tone) in a warm room and air-con room is different...cos when you playing that time you have that kind of feeling....even when you are pressing the notes...weird~ for me only.

That time I dislike band and damn scare of Mr Er de cos I always get scolded and played so badly...tone like shit...I'm the worst sec 1 that time lo...=(

And there was a time we went shuqun sec (first time there I think), we wore our own clothin..(jean + tee). I played wrongly; B natural I played B flat then Mr Er asked me to play but no sound came out...then he asked me to do the 'push ups' ....so...haish. diu nian lo. Lol. Sec 1 nia...

Okay, but before this happened, I was already transferred to play 3rd clarinet cos Mr Er asked Wilson to check on my high notes and it was like shit mah...then cos mag played better than me then we changed seats...haha. Then that time Mr Er even said mag was a black horse...cos she joined later but...play 1st liao. She's talented in music leh I think...I not so...

In the middle I also got lots of scoldings lah. Then Mr Er wanted me to go bass clarinet but because I could not blow in the beginning so too bad. But when I'm in sec 2, he asked me to bring back the instrument and practice and so I brought home. So damn heavy man..., I meant cos I had to walk quite a distance back home and the work done is weight x distance leh...my palms so pain...all red...haiz

But sometimes luckily zhixian got helped me carry to school...near her home there...thanks! Then I was very reluctant that time to play the bass clarinet cos I thought it was heavy mah...and like so big...gosh...and I only 'full time' play the instrument just 1 month before the SYF..have to learn the new score again...but okay la, cos it was rather easy...most are big notes...wahaha. Then when I starting play right, got felt a bit giddy cos as I looked at the score, I could see the image of the 'neck' of the bcl and the score...double images so...but after that no more...
William also went baritone saxophone for the SYF...he was not happy lah =X. Then our parts were almost or totally the same loh. Hmmm then after the SYF, my playing still quite soft then also kana say...For now, I think finally my playing is much stable le bah...although sometimes still quite soft. Usually I don't have running notes all that..mostly are big notes...so rather easy as people would say. But melodies are nicer lah...and got running notes for them...think is more fun but need a lot of air to blow and most importantly you must practice a lot to play well; I lazy leh so better not.

Part 3

Then I quite like the bcl sound leh...play long liao my opinion a bit
change towards bcl...if I were to choose between cl and bcl I will choose bcl...know why? Cos it's more suitable for my level...haha, my tone in cl like shit...so flat de.

If I have one chance and that I could play well in, I would want to play the trumpet. =D cos I like the loudness and the bright sound..it's like so ROARR and noticeable. Haha. Fine, okay, just say I want the attention. Lol. Next would be the alto/tenor saxphone...cos the solos and melodies very nice...including the sound.

Conclusion of Mr Er of what I think: He is a very strict instructor whom would scold anyone if you play wrongly/badly and would not care who you are even if you are the band major or what. Just scold. A very good story-teller, whom got lots of things to share with the students and a great dancer too! Haha. Lol. And his actions are sometimes very funny. Sometimes or often can say is impatient...He also got taught us some values out of studies like saying in the working place you must this and that and not...there's more...

I've wrote damn long and this'd gotta be my longest entry ever. Actually is I already wrote in a paper before typing all these...and OMG, how did I manage to write so long? From what I remembered in band lah, of course. I've met obstacles when I'm in the band (cos i dont play well & had difficulty) and had somewhat overcame it and that's why so much to write. Haha. Didn't quit thought even when I thought of...but of course I did complain, whine and curse.

I think we will step down after the SYF 2007...for O level...chiongg ar!!! LOL.

Actually poly also not bad lah, can dye hair (cool), wear go out clothes, sch schedule not so packed like jc and like very free...hahahhaha. and can see shuai ges.........LOL. but i will not know what course i want to choose so think jc would be better for me.....hehehe....let me in......
